Sonnet 129

The expense of spirit in a waste of shame
精神損耗於無恥的揮霍，
Is lust in action; and till action, lust
終日沈湎肉慾，驕奢淫逸，
Is perjured, murderous, bloody , full of blame,
作偽證，謀殺，血刃，盡作惡，
Savage, extreme, rude, cruel, not to trust,
粗野，暴戾，兇殘，背信棄義；
Enjoy' d no sooner but despised straight,
才把癮過完就把人看輕，
Past reason hunted, and no sooner had
無端地獵取，剛剛追到手
Past reason hated, as a swallow'd bait
就恨不得像釣餌一口吞，
On purpose laid to make the taker mad;
設陷阱使得吞食者上鉤；
Mad in pursuit and in possession so;
追求時瘋狂到手也瘋狂，
Had, having, and in quest to have, extreme;
曾有，現在有，什麼都想要，
A bliss in proof, and proved, a very woe ;
體驗中的極樂，體味悲傷，
Before, a joy proposed; behind, a dream.
事前，喜滋滋；事後，夢已消。
All this the world well knows; yet none knows well
舉世皆清楚，知者卻全無
To shun the heaven that leads men to this hell.
避開去天堂，引人入地獄。
