As I remember your eyes,

Were bluer than robins eggs,

My poetry was lousy you said,
記得你曾說過我的詩糟糕透了，
Where are you calling from?
電話另頭的你現在身在何處？
A booth in the midwest,
（陌生的，遙遠的，）一個中西部電話亭。
Ten years ago,

I bought you some cufflinks,
我買給你了一些袖扣，
You brought me something,
你也送我了些東西。
We both know what memories can bring,
記憶可以帶來什麼，你我深知，
They bring diamonds and rust,
它們帶來鑽石和鐵鏽。
Well you burst on the scene,
是的，你突然出現，
Already a legend,
就已經是一個傳奇，
The unwashed phenomenon,
一束不會淡去的光，
The original vagabond,
這個徹頭徹尾的流浪者，
You strayed into my arms,
你就這樣迷失在我的臂彎，
And there you stayed ,
停留片刻，
Temporarily lost at sea,
又沉淪於海洋。
The Madonna was yours for free,
女神也曾給你自由，
Yes the girl on the half-shell,
還有那個維納斯一般的女孩，
Could keep you unharmed,
她曾經也能庇護你免除一些傷痛。
Now I see you standing,
如今，我看見你站在這，
With brown leaves falling around,
落葉飄零，環繞你周圍，
And snow in your hair,
雪落在你的髮梢，
Now youre smiling out the window,
而你正看著窗外微笑，
Of that crummy hotel,

Our breath comes out white clouds,

Speaking strictly for me,

Then give me another word for it,

You who are so good with words,

And at keeping things vague,
善於讓一些事情保持模糊。
Because I need some of that vagueness now,
因為我現在太需要那些記憶模糊地遠去，
Its all come back too clearly,
偏偏它們所有，都重現地太過清晰。
Yes I loved you dearly,
是的，我深愛過你。
And if youre offering me diamonds and rust,
如果你現在給我鑽石與鐵鏽，
Ive already paid.
