One of the first gigs that I ever played
我曾经在很多地方演出过
Out of all places
Was at my brother's fraternity house in Norman
其中一次是在诺尔曼 我哥哥的联谊会所里
For some philanthropy event
那是一场慈善活动
And you see my twelve-year-old self at the time
那时我方才12岁
Decided to go on stage and intro one of the ballads by saying
再三思量后走上台 介绍了一首歌
"This is for all of the people who have ****** me over"
我说:"这首歌献给那些将我生活搞成一团糟的人"
At twelve-years-old
那可是12岁的年纪阿
I can only imagine how long that list was
我仍记得那串"仇人名单"有多长
After the show
演出结束后
My mom pulled me aside with like
我母亲把我拉到一旁
True catholic anger in her eyes
眼中充满典型天主教式的愤怒
Red in the face
面红耳赤
You know whole nine-yards
你可想她有多生气
And she said
然后她说
"Listen men don't talk like that boys do
"好好听着 真男人可不会说出这种小男生的言语
And I am raising you to be a man"
我将你抚养长大是要成为真正的男子汉"
And of course she was right
诚然 她说得都对
And I think I hated most that I disappointed her
我想我最厌恶的就是让她失望了
She stopped smoking the year I was born
我出生的那年她戒了烟
But anytime I think of that story
但每一次我回想起这件事
I always picture her with a Virginia slim in her hand
我总会想象出一副她手中拿着维珍妮香烟的模样
It was her favorite smoke
那曾是她最爱的烟
